Provides Antioxidant Support

At Asxence, we take a science-led approach to wellness. In this post, we highlight a peer-reviewed review article that compiled multiple clinical studies exploring how astaxanthin may support antioxidant function in healthy adults.

Summary of Evidence

The paper, published in Molecules (2012), reviewed a series of clinical trials investigating the antioxidant-related effects of astaxanthin supplementation at doses ranging from 1.8 to 8 mg per day.

Across the studies cited, several markers associated with oxidative stress were evaluated in healthy adult participants.

Key Findings from the Review

The article summarised several noteworthy observations from individual trials:

  • Reduced DNA damage, such as lower levels of urinary 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), a marker for oxidative DNA stress

  • Improved resistance to LDL oxidation, which is associated with cardiovascular health

  • Lower C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, a general marker of inflammation in the body

  • Increased total antioxidant capacity, reflecting the body’s ability to neutralise free radicals

These observations suggest that astaxanthin may help the body manage oxidative stress more effectively, although more targeted research is needed to clarify its broader physiological effects.

The Asxence View

Oxidative stress plays a role in many areas of wellness, and antioxidants like astaxanthin are increasingly studied for their potential to support overall balance in the body. While we do not claim that our products prevent or treat any condition, we believe in choosing ingredients that are supported by credible scientific inquiry.

By staying informed through clinical research, we aim to offer responsible formulations that can complement a balanced lifestyle.
